EPIPHANY SWIMMING
The Church of Bajina Bašta and the Tourist Organization “Tara – Drina” organize “The Epiphany Swimming for the Holy Cross” every year. This is a traditional event among Serbs, which is organized every year on the 19th. of January, on the holiday of the Epiphany.
Epiphany is a holiday that celebrates the event that happened immediately after St. John the Forerunner baptized Jesus Christ in the Jordan River. While Jesus was coming out of the water, he saw St. John as the heavens opened, and the Holy Spirit descended on Jesus Christ in the form of a dove, and a voice was heard from heaven: “This is my beloved son, who is according to my will!” This moment represents the announcement of the God-man and the public introduction of Jesus Christ into rescue duty.
The winner of swimming for the Holy Cross receives a gold coin, cup and medal, and all participants will receive medals, T-shirts and other special gifts.
Registration for participation in the Swimming for the Holy Cross is done at the Tourist Information Center in Bajina Bašta, and the working hours of the Info Center are from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Only persons over the age of 18 can apply. All registered participants are provided with a mandatory medical examination at the hospital, as well as transportation of participants to Lake Perućac and back after the event.
