DRINA RIVER HOUSE
Drina river house is a symbol of Bajina Bašta and one of the most famous landmarks of the river, known to Serbs as Zelenika, but also of the entire Podrinje region. This fairytale scene of a rock with a house on it while being caressed by emerald green water on both sides represents the most beautiful beginning of getting to know Bajina Bašta.
The undulating and untamed Drina river had a habit of crashing the house from time to time in a burst of unbridled strength down the river, but the town enthusiasts always soon built a new one, stronger and more beautiful, which would immediately cause even greater admiration and attention. Drina river house has gained so much popularity over time that it is no longer possible to count the thousands of newspaper, television, internet portal and tourist brochures that daily bring stories, video news and pictures of the famous house.
Drina river house has surpassed the local brand of Bajina Bašta and has become one of the recognizable Serbian symbols that speak of the beauty of our nature, but also of the unique harmony of nature and man in our country.
According to one of the folk tales from this region, the main “culprit” for the creation of the rock in the middle of the Drina river is the Serbian national hero Marko Kraljević. Wanting to cross over to the other bank of the Drina river without his famous horse Šarac getting his feet wet, he threw a huge rock from the towns viewpoint Crvena Stena into the very center of the river. Šarac jumped from one bank to a newly formed rock and jumped to the other bank of the Drina, and according to the stories of the best connoisseurs of the secrets of this place, you can still see the prints of Šarac’s hoof on the rock.
