CRUISE THROUGH THE DRINA CANYONE

The deepest and most impressive part of the Drina canyon was built between Bajina Basta and Visegrad, cutting into the slopes of the Zvijezda and Susica mountains in a length of 38 km, where in some parts the canyon is over a thousand meters deep. . The sides of the canyon are very steep with numerous tributaries and culverts, overgrown with forest and shrubby vegetation, but there are often vertical, bare rocky cliffs.

The Drina canyon and the canyons of its tributaries represent places where, thanks to specific microclimatic conditions, rare plant species found their habitat. The most famous is the Pancic spruce, a conifer species that occurs naturally only in this area, and the wooded cliffs and caves in the canyon provide an ideal refuge for the brown bear. Numerous chamois live in the gorges of the canyon, which descend to an altitude of only 300 meters, which is a world phenomenon. Also, the bald eagle nests on the cliffs of the Drina canyon.

With the construction of the dam near Perucac, the lowest parts of the canyon were submerged and turned into Lake Perucac, which extends to Visegrad and to which boat cruises are organized.
